What you do and why you do what you do?
I am a realtor here in Colorado Springs. I help people who don’t necessarily know that they can purchase a home. I work with anyone, but I like to focus on people whose rent is about the same amount as a monthly mortgage payment. I focus on educating them to make sure that they’re able to make informed decisions. More often than not, I turn renters into buyers. In the long run, they’re going to save a lot of money and generate wealth. It’s not just about you owning a home; It’s about building for your family.
How did you get started?
I started in property management years ago back in California. A friend recommended I go into real estate with him, but I couldn’t do it at the time. So I ended up in property management for about six years. I liked the job of managing tenants, but the part I enjoyed most was showing the properties and just being involved with helping people find a place to live.
What are some values that guide how you do business?
It’s really about just meeting my clients’ needs. Everybody doesn’t want to buy a home right away. Some people just need to start learning what steps they need to take leading up to buying a home. I share a lot of information and tools with my clients to help them make informed decisions. I deal with a lot of soldiers and military families, and because many of them move throughout their careers, purchasing and renting a home needs to be a part of the discussion.
What is the first thing someone should do if they want to buy a home?
The first thing you should do if you’re thinking about buying a home is get in touch with a realtor. We have a team of lenders and vendors that we can put you touch with, while you’re making your transaction. And to be honest with you, if you’re working with an agent who already has those referrals, this means they also have a relationship with them. So the likelihood of successfully closing on a home is much higher than if you found a separate agent and lender who don’t know each other. I know how my lenders operate, and I can almost tell the client like clockwork what’s going to happen when they work together.
What advice would you give your younger self?
Get into real estate as soon as you can because there is a lot of wealth and benefits for your family economically, financially, and emotionally.
