Juneteenth. Denver, Colorado is considering whether to designate June 19, also known as Juneteenth, as a commemorative holiday. If you live in the Denver area, contact your City Council member to voice your support. Also consider reaching out to Councilman Christopher Herndon (District 8) to thank him for introducing the proposal.

Golden. Directors Regina King (“One Night in Miami”), Chloé Zhao (“Nomadland”), and Emerald Fennel (“Promising Young Woman”) were nominated for best director at the Golden Globe awards. This is the first time three women have ever nominated for this award at one time in the 77-year history of the Golden Globes.
The Health of Today’s Women
Sleeping habits. Google has seen a surge in search terms related to sleep recently. There are several issues that can affect the quality of our sleep, including alcohol consumption and mental health. Maternal health. Yesterday, Representatives Lauren Underwood (D-Ill.) and Alma Adams (D-N.C.) partnered with Senator Cory Booker (D-N.J.) to introduce the Black Maternal Health Momnibus Act of 2021, which aims to eliminate health disparities between White and Black mothers. Nationally, Black women are 3 times more likely to die from preventable causes during and after their pregnancy than their White counterparts, regardless of their income and educational attainment. While this bill advances important initiatives to improve Black women’s health, we hope that our representatives will consider extending these services to our American Indian and Alaskan Native sisters who are also dying at unacceptably high rates.
