As the fear of the coronavirus COVID-19 spreads like celebrity porn, so does the opportunity. As I mentioned in the last blog, I am thinking capitalizing on this, but for my people who are stuck at the homes with the kids for the next two weeks, business is probably the last thing on your mind. So for you Lovebug, I have created a list of things to do while quarantined:
Get some rest. How many times have you heard yourself say “I need some sleep” or “I wish I had time to take a nap” or something of the similar? Here is your grand opportunity to lay your ass down and catch up on some ZZZs. Even just laying in the bed vegging out will do you some good. Take a mental break and watch some cartoon movies or something super funny. Laughter heals and builds up the immunity system.
Clean up. Exciting right? Well, you can’t use the excuse of not having time to organize that pile of papers sitting on the floor next to the file cabinet. Oh wait, that’s me, my bad. What undone projects do you have lying around the house? Or ideas collecting dust? You know they say a cluttered space is a cluttered mind. The article How Cleaning and Organizing Can Improve Your Physical and Mental Health begins with “Piles of laundry and endless To Dos are exhausting, but they can actually mess with all aspects of your life-not just your daily schedule or orderly home.
Spend quality time with loved ones. For those of you who are parents, please utilize this time to plan some at-home activities or outdoor fun with your housemates. Don’t look at this as imprisonment, rather a retreat. Make it an adventure. Use it as a time to get to know one another better. When is the last time you and your boo had to spend this much time together? Make the best of it.
Learn and/or do something new. What better time than this to take a webinar, read book or listen to a podcast? I recommend Get High On Motivation. What new skill could accelerate your current situation personally or professionally? What adaptation will allow you to keep operating? Look for the opportunity being created for you.
Start a new routine. With Spring sliding in, days are getting longer and warmer. Get outside and exercise. Have you been considering meditation? Incorporate a quick session into your day while you have more control and less commute time. You have a few days to practice and determine what works and what doesn’t.
Help someone else in need. If you are like me and not really taking this “fake news” seriously, see how you can get out and help someone else in your community. Make a donation. If you are in Nashville, go help a tornado victim, the aftermath still prevails. There are volunteer efforts around the country. Go check on your neighbors.
Let your face and hair breathe. Ladies, take your eyelashes and lace-front off. Have some makeup-free days. Give your hair a break from the heat. Fellas can give the razor and clippers a rest.
Meditate. Yes, sit (or lay) your butt down and be quiet. Focus on your breathing, when you catch yourself thinking off, gently guide yourself back to your breath. Do a walking or moving mediation. Try a little yoga, start with Sun Breaths.
Make candles… Wait that’s what I am doing. The stuff has been staring at me since Valentine’s Day. What’s something new and possibly fun that you can embark upon. Be creative, let that right brain flow. Make something you need, leading me to the next thing on the list.
Start a garden. If this becomes an armageddon, you may need to know how to grow your own. Plus there’s nothing better than picking from your own harvest and preparing it to put on the table. Homegrown almost always taste better.
